Book Review: The Phantom Limb – Lucinda Berry

Phantom Limb: A Gripping Psychological ThrillerPhantom Limb: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by Lucinda Berry

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m a licensed professional therapist, so when I was asked to review a psychological thriller, I jumped at the chance! Initially, I didn’t have high expectations (because I never know what to expect going into a new book). After receiving the book, I decided I’d read a page or two to get a general idea of the writing and what to expect. After an HOUR of reading had passed, I realized how engrossed and invested I already was in this thriller and the fascinating characters in this new world I was exploring. As a therapist, I do believe that the discussion of the mental hospital, the disorders, the treatment, etc. were accurate (I’m sure this is due to the author being a psychologist/childhood trauma researcher which makes her the perfect person to write a story of this nature!).

This book was an exceptionally easy read – excellent and understandable writing, a great story-line with a perfect flow. Excellent details throughout, great representation of mental illnesses that many people have to deal with on a regular basis. As for the twin sisters themselves, they were great characters that I immediately wanted to know more about! This thriller keeps you interested from page one to the very last (and heartbreaking) sentence. Expect the unexpected.

As other reviewers have posted, it is important to know that there are multiple triggers in this book that could be difficult for some readers – sexual abuse, physical abuse, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, etc. I was given an advanced digital copy for review by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
